Greece Celebrates Successful Participation at OTM 2024

Heralding a triumphant return to the global tourism stage, the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s presence at OTM 2024 underscored the nation’s commitment to showcasing its diverse attractions and cultural heritage to travelers worldwide, with a keen focus on the burgeoning Indian market.

Riding on the wave of recent tourism successes, Greece has witnessed a remarkable surge in visitor numbers, with 27.8 million tourists in 2022 and an impressive 32 million in 2023. As Greece continues to soar, the nation remains steadfast in its efforts to provide unparalleled experiences to travelers from across the globe.

Recognizing the immense potential of the Indian market, Greece has strategically positioned India as a key focus for tourism expansion. Following high-level discussions between the Prime Minister of Greece and the Prime Minister of India in August 2023, both nations have intensified efforts to strengthen economic and tourism ties, with a particular emphasis on facilitating connecting flights and fostering cultural exchanges.

Eleftheria Fili, a GNTO’s officer from the headquarters and member of the Greek delegation at the OTM 2024 expressed excitement about Greece’s engagement with the Indian market, stating, “Our participation at OTM 2024 was instrumental in showcasing Greece’s unique appeal to Indian travelers. Highlighting Greece’s allure to the film industry, the picturesque Naxos Island served as the captivating backdrop for the Bollywood blockbuster “Tiger Zinda Hai” in 2017, showcasing Greece’s potential as a filming destination and further cementing its appeal to Indian audiences.

In a significant development, the upcoming visit of the Greek Prime Minister, to India later this month underscores the importance of fostering closer ties between the two nations, particularly in the realm of tourism.
