Mr. Rajiv Mehra, President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), expressed sincere thanks to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration for their collaborative efforts in resolving entry issues faced by Taiwanese nationals visiting Sikkim through the Rango Check Post.
Mr. Mehra highlighted the challenge wherein Taiwanese tourists were encountering difficulties entering Sikkim due to the non-acceptance of the Sikkim Permit issued by the India-Taipei Association at the Rango Checkpost. According to reports from IATO members, officials at the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO) outpost in Rangpo were refusing to accept the Sikkim Permit, asserting that it needed clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs or the Ministry of External Affairs, as per their instructions.
In response to the issue, IATO engaged with the Joint Secretary (Foreigners) of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration, Government of India. The association emphasized that the Sikkim Permit issued by the India-Taipei Association had been accepted without any problem in the past and urged that suitable directives be issued to Rangpo FRO officials to acknowledge these permits.
IATO conveyed its gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration for promptly addressing the matter. The favorable consideration of IATO’s request has led to the acceptance of the Inner Line Permit issued by the India-Taipei Association at the Rangpo Check-post. This resolution ensures that tourists from Taiwan can now smoothly enter Sikkim without any inconvenience, noted Mr. Mehra.
