SLCB Launches SL MICE Expo 2026, Bringing 120+ Hosted Buyers and Media from 27 Countries to Colombo

Sixth edition of Sri Lanka’s flagship MICE platform set to run in Colombo from 5–9 October, reinforcing the island’s growing standing as a business events destination

The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), the national tourism organization responsible for the development and promotion of Sri Lanka’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, has announced the launch of SL MICE Expo 2026, bringing together more than 120 international hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries.

Now in its sixth edition, the flagship MICE event is scheduled to take place in Colombo from 5 – 9 October 2026, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a competitive and compelling destination for international business events. The Expo has been organised in line with the SLCB Marketing Plan 2026, building on the strong momentum generated by previous editions since the platform’s inception in 2021 – an evolution that has taken it from a virtual initiative to a leading international meeting point for Sri Lanka’s MICE industry, global buyers, media and industry stakeholders.

A Destination Built for Business and Beyond

Sri Lanka’s appeal as a MICE destination rests heavily on its compact geographic diversity – beaches, ancient cities, wildlife sanctuaries and hill country tea plantations all within a few hours of one another, offering rich material for the pre- and post-event tours that typically accompany major MICE programmes. While the country continues on its path of modernization, it retains a strong hold on its traditional values and cultural pride, an authenticity that continues to draw visitors from around the world.

This combination of business infrastructure, natural beauty, cultural heritage and diverse experience within a compact footprint allows international MICE visitors to seamlessly combine business travel with genuine cultural, leisure and incentive experiences – from pristine beaches and vibrant cities to ancient kingdoms and scenic hill country.

Government and Industry Backing

Hon. (Prof.) Ruwan Ranasinghe, M.P., Deputy Minister of Tourism, affirmed that the Government recognizes the MICE sector as a key driver of tourism growth, welcoming SL MICE Expo 2026 as an important platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s MICE potential to international buyers and media.

Mr. Dheera Hettiarachchi, Chairman of SLCB, noted that the participation of more than 120 hosted buyers and media representatives from 27 countries will create valuable opportunities for Sri Lankan MICE industry partners to build international business connections and partnerships.

What the Programme Offers

SL MICE Expo 2026 has been designed to bring international MICE buyers, media representatives and Sri Lankan tourism and MICE industry stakeholders together through a programme built around meaningful business engagement. Highlights include a business forum examining current trends and opportunities in the MICE industry, an Inaugural Plenary Session featuring keynote speakers, and a comprehensive B2B meetings programme connecting international hosted buyers directly with Sri Lankan MICE suppliers to generate leads, partnerships and future business.

The Expo will also host networking events aimed at building long-term relationships between international and local industry professionals, alongside destination experiences that spotlight Sri Lanka’s tourism, cultural and leisure offerings. Familiarization experiences have been built into the programme as well, giving hosted buyers and media first-hand exposure to the country’s MICE capabilities and destinations.

Together, these elements position the Expo as a dynamic marketplace where buyers and sellers can explore new products and services, exchange industry knowledge, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Global MICE Positioning

The scale of international participation – over 120 hosted buyers and media from 27 countries – reflects growing global interest in Sri Lanka as a business events destination. Through the Expo, SLCB aims to deepen relationships with key international markets while giving Sri Lankan MICE suppliers direct access to decision-makers and influential media from around the world.

Beyond the immediate business generated at the event, SL MICE Expo 2026 is expected to deliver wider economic benefits by encouraging international business events, incentive travel and conferences to choose Sri Lanka, supporting tourism enterprises and local communities across the island.

SL MICE Expo 2026 marks another significant step in SLCB’s ongoing effort to position Sri Lanka as a world-class MICE destination – one that combines value, connectivity, hospitality and extraordinary experiences with the professional capabilities required to host successful international events. With strong international participation and robust engagement from the local MICE industry, this year’s edition is set to generate new business opportunities, strengthen global partnerships, and showcase the full range of possibilities Sri Lanka offers the international MICE community.
