Jaffna, the capital of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka is all set for the inaugural edition of the Jaffna MICE Expo 2023 organized by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Lands. The event will be held from 30th November to 03rd December 2023 in Jaffna. The event is designed to showcase the Northern Province as a promising destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) while also providing MICE agents and media personnel from South India with an opportunity to explore its potential.
A total of 170 potential MICE buyers from India expressed interest in the hosted buyer program, leading to a meticulous evaluation process that resulted in 40 buyers and 5 media personnel being selected for participation. The chosen MICE buyers will engage in industry forums, networking sessions, and familiarization tours curated by SLCB as integral components of the Expo.
Mr. Thisum Jayasuriya, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, expressed pride in spearheading the effort to showcase the Northern Province as a promising MICE destination. The Jaffna MICE Expo promises to foster connections between local service providers, including event organizers, travel agents, hotels, venue partners, and international buyers, instilling confidence in hosting global events in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Krishantha Fernando, General Manager of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, highlighted the overwhelming response received from both hosted buyers and local vendors, resulting in sold-out slots well in advance. Access to all Jaffna MICE Expo events requires prior registration, with the Business Forum set to take place at Thinnai Hotel, and the Opening Ceremony and B2B Session scheduled at North Gate Hotel in Jaffna. Partner hotels include Jetwing Jaffna Hotel and Fox Resort Jaffna.
The Honorable Minister of Tourism and Lands, Harin Fernando, is anticipated to grace the event as the Chief Guest, while the Honorable Mrs. P.S.M. Charles, Governor of the Northern Province, has been invited as the Guest of Honor.
