Sri Lankan Airlines recently inaugurated its newest office in Trivandrum on May 13, 2024, in collaboration with Trans Lanka Air Travels Pvt. Ltd., appointed as the General Sales Agent (GSA) for South Kerala. This strategic move reflects the airline’s dedication to bolstering its presence in Southern Kerala and elevating the travel experience for passengers from areas including Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Varkala, Kovalam and other southern parts of Kerala, and Kanyakumari, Marthandam, Nagercoil, and Tirunelveli from Tamil Nadu.
Mr Dimuthu Tennakoon, Head of Worldwide Sales and Distribution at Sri Lankan Airlines, officially inaugurated the airline’s new office at the Pulimood junction, located near the state secretariat in Trivandrum. The ceremony involved the traditional lighting of the lamp and the cutting of the ribbon in the capital city of Kerala – “God’s Own Country,” in the presence of Mr Fawzan Fareid, Regional Manager for India, Bangladesh, and Nepal of SriLankan Airlines; Mr Sandun Jayasinghe, Area Manager, Trivandrum of SriLankan Airlines; Mr B. Ramesh Kumar, Managing Director of Trans Lanka Air Travels; Mr. R. Radhakrishnan Executive Director of Translanka Air Travels Pvt. Ltd; Mr. K.C. Chandrahasn, Managing Director of Kerala Travels Interserve Ltd.; Mr. K.V. Miralidharan, President, Travel Agents Association of Kerala, and many other trade leaders and media representatives who attended the inauguration of the office. They affirmed the airline’s enduring commitment to its customers in the region. The airline anticipates serving customers in South Kerala and Trivandrum with a renewed focus on service delivery in partnership with its new GSA and office.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Tennakoon highlighted Sri Lankan Airlines’ ambitious plans to promote tourism to Sri Lanka among Kerala’s residents. Given Kerala’s geographical proximity to Sri Lanka, with Colombo airport being easily accessible from Trivandrum and Kochi, the airline aims to tap into the potential of outbound tourists from Kerala. Despite Kerala’s three international airports serving as key transit points to Colombo, there remains untapped potential for tourism between the two regions. To address this, Sri Lankan Airlines intends to organize a series of roadshows, travel agent meetings, and various marketing campaigns to entice tourists from Kerala to explore the offerings of the island nation.
Sri Lankan Airlines, renowned for its extensive network in India, commenced flights to Trivandrum in April 1980. Over the years, it has maintained strong connections between Trivandrum and Colombo, offering seamless travel options to numerous global destinations. Currently, the airline operates four weekly flights between Trivandrum and Colombo, facilitating travel on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Reflecting on the airline’s longstanding presence in Trivandrum, Mr Tennakoon emphasized Sri Lankan Airlines’ commitment to providing unparalleled service and connectivity to the people of Southern Kerala. With Sri Lanka being the nearest international destination to South Kerala and Trivandrum, it continues to attract a growing number of visitors from the region, drawn by its unique cultural experiences, culinary delights, and scenic beauty. As Sri Lankan Airlines embarks on this new partnership and outreach initiative, it remains poised to elevate the travel experience for passengers while strengthening ties between Kerala and Sri Lanka.
