Tamil Nadu has long been a premier travel destination in India. To maintain and strengthen this position, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department is actively working to promote the state both domestically and internationally. In collaboration with various industry stakeholders, the department is engaged in numerous promotional activities to showcase the state’s diverse attractions.
Taking inspiration from Kerala’s successful Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), Tamil Nadu’s tourism stakeholders have united to launch the Tamil Nadu Travel Expo (TTE). This initiative aims to enhance the visibility of Tamil Nadu’s tourism offerings and attract more visitors to the state.
The Tamil Nadu Travel Expo (TTE) is a buyer-seller meet organized by Travel Club, Madurai, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and SIHRA (South India Hotels and Restaurants Association), with support from the Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The event is scheduled to take place in Madurai from September 20 to 22, 2024, at the IDA Scudder Auditorium, adjacent to the Grand Madurai by GRT Hotels.
The organizers are set to host 250 potential buyers from India and neighbouring countries, covering their expenses from airport to airport. These buyers include tour operators, travel agents, and influencers interested in promoting Tamil Nadu’s tourism products to their clients. The event will feature 150 to 200 stakeholders from Tamil Nadu’s tourism industry, who will showcase their products in stalls and table spaces. For the first time, Tamil Nadu has been divided into four regions to better present the clustered products to visiting buyers.
The hosted buyers will gain insights into Tamil Nadu’s post-COVID tourism products, as well as its rich culture, heritage, and cuisine. Knowledge-sharing sessions will be organized, featuring eminent speakers from across the country. Additionally, an award night will recognize outstanding contributions to Tamil Nadu Tourism. Various post-event tours will be arranged for buyers, allowing them to explore Tamil Nadu’s diverse destinations and cultural experiences.
The success of TTE is backed by commitments from hotels, tour operators, transporters, and other tourism experience product stakeholders, who are sponsoring accommodation, meals, transport, and other services.
The convenor of TTE is Mr. T. Natarajan, the Honorary Secretary of SIHRA. The co-convenor is Dr. G. Vasudevan, MD of Fortune Pandiyan Hotel, Madurai. Representing CII are Mr. Vikram Cotah, Chairman of the Tourism Task Force of CII, and Mr. Raja Graham, President of Travel Club, Madurai.
