March 8, 2024, marked a momentous occasion as the Air India group soared to new heights in commemorating International Women’s Day. With a resolute focus on championing gender equality and honoring the indelible contributions of women in aviation, the airline embarked on a series of initiatives designed to inspire, empower, and celebrate the pivotal role of women in the industry.
In a remarkable display of empowerment, a total of 15 all-women crew flights were operated by Air India group across domestic and international routes. With over 15% of its cockpit crew being women, Air India stands as one of the leading airlines with a substantial number of women pilots.
Highlighting its commitment to diversity, women employees now represent 51% of Air India’s workforce. Over the past two years, since Air India’s return to the Tata group, there has been a significant increase in women employees across all sectors of the airline’s operations. At Air India Express, more than 13% of pilots are women, while nearly half of the workforce comprises female employees.
To inspire and empower its women employees further, Air India group has organized week-long programs featuring webinars and live sessions with experts from various fields, serving as role models for wider awareness and motivation.
As a token of appreciation to its customers, Air India Express is offering complimentary seat selection and priority boarding services to all women passengers today via its mobile app and website. Additionally, the Air India Loyalty Programme, Flying Returns, is extending a special fast-track opportunity for its female members to upgrade to the Silver Edge Club, granting exclusive benefits such as 15% more reward points, complimentary upgrades, and priority check-in services.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ resonates deeply with the ethos of the Tata group and Air India, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and the well-being of women in all spheres of life. Acknowledging that diversity and inclusion drive innovation and growth, Air India remains steadfast in its commitment to providing equal opportunities to all employees.
As part of its operational schedule for the day, Air India operated flights to five destinations, encompassing three international routes, while Air India Express covered two international and eight domestic destinations
