Twistic and WeavAIR Triumph in the UN Tourism Hospitality Challenge

Twistic and WeavAIR, two pioneering startups, emerged victorious in the UN Tourism Hospitality Challenge held in Europe on February 20, 2024. This challenge, part of the second edition of UN Tourism Tech Adventures, in collaboration with Infecar, focused on Tourism Technologies and Solutions for Hotels and New Business Models.

Over 120 entrepreneurs from nearly 70 countries showcased their innovative projects, competing in a pitch format during the UN Tourism Tech Adventures within the DigiON event held in Gran Canaria, Spain. The competition aimed to revolutionize the tourism sector with sustainability and innovation at its core, seeking solutions to redefine the hotel landscape and identify new business models.

Natalia Bayona, Executive Director of UN Tourism, praised the ten finalists selected from a pool of 120 startups worldwide. These finalists, including the winning startups Twistic and WeavAIR, showcased technological solutions aimed at reshaping the hospitality industry with disruptive approaches.

Twistic, a Spanish company, clinched the award for Innovations in Digital Hospitality and New Business Models. Their mobile applications, digital signature, and electronic tags aim to enhance user experience. WeavAIR, a Canadian company, stood out in the Sustainability Impact category with its business intelligence solutions and remote auditing based on satellite networks and IoT.

Other notable finalists included Schulering from the Czech Republic, Everhost from the United States, Sparkle Haze from the United Arab Emirates, and Ostel Flow from Tunisia. Additionally, in the Sustainability Impact category, Senange Eco from Canada, Hotels for Trees from the Netherlands, Effiwaste from Spain, and Purple Elephant Ventures from Kenya showcased their impactful initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Apart from accolades, the startups received personalized support, mentoring from UN Tourism and its partners, and opportunities to join the UN Tourism Innovation Network. Furthermore, they were offered scholarships to study at the Tourism Online Academy, enriching their knowledge and skills in the tourism sector.
